Section II

Summary Position Statement:

This position is responsible for providing early intervention services to families with infants and toddlers (birth to 3 years of age) who experience developmental delays or disabilities. Services include transdisciplinary play based developmental evaluations, family service coordination, and diagnostic and treatment. Evaluations, Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP), and home visits are completed and implemented with families to promote the family’s capacity to support their child’s growth and development within the child and family’s natural environment.

Section III

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Assessment and identification of infants and young children with social emotional delays or attachment disorders in development
  • Consulting with parents through relationship based practice, in order to promote the parent-child relationship.
  • Treatment including various models of parent-infant psychotherapy:
  • Assisting parents/caregivers to understand and respond sensitively to the cues the child gives.
  • Routinely talking about social and emotional milestones as part of the developmental guidance that is provided.
  • Carefully listening to families to help them identify, clarify, and address issues that may be affecting the developing relationship with their child.
  • Working with community mental health and public health providers, when there is concern about maternal depression, parental substance abuse and other family mental health disorders.
  • Developing cross-disciplinary approaches between infant mental health and early intervention providers
  • Provides consultation to other providers and families.
  • Provides family service coordination for children enrolled in the program, as needed.
  • Develops and implements Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Providing information about social-emotional development in the context of caregiving relationships to all parents, health care providers, child care providers, etc., as part of child find and public awareness efforts.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate files and data entry in accordance with ILP and agency policies and follows billing procedures.
  • Participates as a team member in transdisciplinary assessments.
  • Travels to outlying communities to provide services as needed.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other providers and agencies serving families. In doing so, makes referrals and accesses resources for children and families.
  • Work is performed primarily within the client’s home, including evening home visits; and will require driving during inclement weather conditions.
  • Facilitates the transition process for children exiting from the program based on ILP standards.
  • Actively participates in on-going learning, mentoring, and relationship-based supervision.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participates in public awareness activities and child find efforts.
  • Participate in Reflective supervision with the ILP team
  • This program uses an infant mental health approach. Support and training will be provided.
  • Provides in-service training as necessary within the program, parent groups, community, and at statewide conferences.
  • Understands and complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and federal/state law.
  • Maintains and promotes a positive professional working relationship with all employees and partner agencies.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, committees and training as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the ILP Director.
  • Participates in community diagnostic teams as needed.
  • Upholds professional ethics as outlined by the NASW (National Association of Social Workers), and Alliance for Infant Mental Health.

Section IV

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university. CPR and first aid certificates required within 30 days of hire. TB, fingerprint and background check clearance required. Must have current Alaska driver’s license and auto insurance per agency standards.

Licensure: Current State of Alaska LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or license eligible. Will also consider other licensure in mental health such as LPC or LMFT. Registry with the SEED with an assigned Level 10 or higher within 30 days of hire. Completion of the State of Alaska Part C Credential within 6 months of hire.

Minimum Experience: 1 year of pediatric social work experience preferred or experience working with young children who experience developmental delays, home visiting or 1 year providing family therapy with children

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, spreadsheets and other applications.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to complete required documentation and reports within required timelines.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform sedentary and active work that requires some lifting. Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment.

Working Conditions: Work is performed at the REACH office, client homes, and requires traveling to home visits, evening visits and may include travel to outlying communities by small planes.
